Lash Lift + Lash Serum: Can You Use Both? Timing & Aftercare

A lash lift curls your natural lashes upward for weeks, with no daily curler and no extensions. A lash serum conditions those same lashes. So can you use both, and in what order?

Yes, you can. Timing is what matters. Here's when to stop, when to start again, and how to make your lift last in a humid climate.

Quick answer

You can use a lash serum with a lash lift. Wait 24 to 48 hours after your lift before applying serum, so the curl can set. After that, apply a thin line of serum along your upper lash line once a day as usual. Choose an oil-free serum, because oil can soften the curl faster.

Lash lift vs lash serum: what each one does

Lash lift Lash serum
What it does Reshapes natural lashes into a lifted curl Conditions natural lashes for a longer, fuller-looking appearance
When you see it Immediately Gradually, with consistent daily use
How long it lasts About 6–8 weeks, one lash growth cycle As long as you keep using it
Where it happens Salon, about an hour At home, under a minute
Best for Straight or downward-pointing lashes Short, thin or weak-looking lashes

A lift changes the shape of your lashes. A serum supports their condition. A lift looks best on lashes that are long and healthy enough to curl, which is why the two pair well.

Timing: before, during and after your lift

Before your appointment

Arrive with clean lashes, free of mascara and oily products. Ask your lash technician whether they want you to skip your serum the night before; many prefer lashes with no product on them.

The first 24 to 48 hours

This is when the curl sets. Keep your lashes dry and avoid steam, saunas, eye makeup, oil-based products and rubbing your eyes. Don't apply serum yet.

From day 2 or 3 onwards

Restart your serum. Apply a single thin line at the base of your upper lashes, the way you'd apply liquid eyeliner, and let it dry. See How to Apply Lash Serum for Maximum Results for the full technique.

Between lifts

Keep using your serum every day. Lifted lashes shed and are replaced on their natural cycle, so consistent conditioning supports the lashes your next lift will curl.

Why oil-free matters

Oils can soften a lash lift and make the curl drop sooner. That applies to cleansing oils, oil-based makeup removers and oily eye creams as well as serums. Check that your lash serum is oil-free. ILASH Eyelash Conditioning Serum is oil-free and is applied once nightly along the upper lash line.

Making your lift last in Singapore's humidity

Heat, steam and humidity can weaken a lift over time. In a hot, humid climate:

  • Skip hot showers on your face for the first 48 hours, and keep long, steamy showers to a minimum after that.
  • Blot sweat from your eye area rather than wiping across your lashes.
  • Use a water-based, washable mascara rather than waterproof. Waterproof formulas need oil-based removers and rubbing, both of which shorten a lift.
  • Don't sleep face-down into your pillow if you can avoid it.
  • Brush lashes upward with a clean spoolie each morning.

How often can you get a lash lift?

Most people rebook every 6 to 8 weeks, once most of the lifted lashes have shed. Lifting again sooner, while lashes still hold a curl, puts extra stress on the hair for little gain. If your lashes feel dry or brittle, give them a break and let a serum condition them before your next lift.

Lash lift, extensions or serum alone?

FAQ

Can I use lash serum after a lash lift?

Yes. Wait 24 to 48 hours after your lift so the curl can set, then continue your usual once-daily application.

Will lash serum ruin my lash lift?

An oil-free serum applied as a thin line at the lash base shouldn't affect your lift. Oil-based products are more likely to make the curl drop early.

Should I stop lash serum before a lash lift?

Arrive with clean lashes. Ask your technician whether to skip your serum the night before your appointment.

How long does a lash lift last?

Usually 6 to 8 weeks, which matches the natural growth cycle of your lashes. A tint, if you add one, often fades sooner than the curl.

Can I use a lash curler after a lash lift?

Avoid it for at least the first 24 to 48 hours. After that, most people don't need one. Heavy curling can crimp lifted lashes.
